Summary
Annals of the Seymours, 1540-1598 (labeled as v. 1); Notes, 1500-1769 (labeled as v. 2); and Appendix (labeled as v. 3).
Correspondence, 1595-1698 (labeled as v. 1-3) and Correspondence, 1702-1762 (labeled as v. 4). The correspondence, official and semiofficial, relates chiefly to the conduct of the Spanish War, 1595-1604, when the Earl of Bath was Lord Lieutenant of Devon; the Civil War, 1643-1644, when Colonel Edward Seymour was governor of Dartmouth; and the investigation into the title of Edward Seymour, 6th bart., to the Dukedom of Somerset, ca. 1749-1750. Several of the letters appear in the Report of the Historical Manuscripts Commission on the Manuscripts of the Duke of Somerset, 1898, and the whole collection seems to be part of the same series.
