Historical background
The Shakespeare family of Rowington, from manuscript in the possession of John Payton (who married Anne née Ives, widow of William Shakespeare, d. 1762?). The poet is included in this family, with John Shakespeare of Rowington as his grandfather. Use is also made of manuscript belonging to Edmond Malone.
