Fairholt's original sketches for the Halliwell-Phillipps edition of Shakespeare, willed to Paton but destroyed in a railway accident: "with exception of a life, no loss could have grieved me more." All letters written from 33 George Square, Edinburgh. (1) accompanied by envelope addressed to C. Roach Smith at Strood, near Rochester. (3-5) on mourning paper.
