Thoreau asks if she has read any noble verses nowadays and if she is coming to Concord again. He refers to Shakespeare: "I think the best parts of Shakespeare would only be enhanced by the most thrilling and affecting events." He also mentions borrowing a music-box from Mrs. Hawthorne. Letter initialed H.D.T. Addressed "Dear Friend." Contains minor pencil annotations, possibly in Emerson's hand.
