Summary
Center, Apollo, wearing a laurel crown and holding a lyre, seated before a tree; at his feet are symbols of learning, including a pair of compasses, a treatise on geometry and a lute; to left, students attend lectures, beyond, the nine Muses sit at the foot of Mount Parnassus, Pegasus appears at the summit; to right, figures in a formal garden and a palace, in which a painter is at work. -- From British Museum cat.
