Contains two works: Liber Sancti Effrem and Speculum animae. Liber Sancti Effrem includes six sermons of Saint Ephrem the Syrian, in Latin translation, arranged in six books. Sermons 2-6 have been identified as De iudicio Dei (on the judgment of God), De beatitude animae (On the blessed state of the soul), De paenitencia, (On repentance), De luctaminibus (On struggles), and De die iudicii (On the Day of Judgment). The second work is variously known as Speculum animae (Mirror of the Soul) or Soliloquium animae (Soliloquy of the soul) by Heinrich von Langestein. The manuscript contains chapters two through fifteen.

Spoken of the wicked king of babilon."; on leaf 55v: "pendar Thomas pendar"; on leaf 56r: "god sende vs all good conuncel." Written in an italic hand in pen on leaf 5r: "Will and Walke aright Will Walker". Written in a modern hand in pencil on leaf 2r: "This mss is supposed to have belonged to W. Shakepere! & given by him to his godson William Walker. See Shakespere's will where a bequest is made to the above XX s in gold."; on leaf 1v: "Bound by Berthold".

Binding information
Rebound in brown goatskin in 20th century by "H D Mc". Ca. 1540s English stamped calf now used as doublures. A remnant of tooling from this binding pasted to front endleaf. Spine title: Tractatus de anima. Binder's note states that 16th century binding was sewn on 4 "deer hide" (alum-tawed) cords, with green and red headbands.
