A ca. 1880 transcription of an 1832 copy of a poetical miscellany of the first half of the 17th century, now Edinburgh University Library MS Halliwell-Phillipps coll. 401. Two poems - "From the rich Lavinian shoare" and "Giue me a cup of rich canarie wine" - are attributed to Shakespeare; others to Jonson, Raleigh, Herrick, etc. It is said to be the work of one Richard Jackson. The original ms is described by J.P. Collier (Hist. Eng. dram. poetry, 1831, III, 275), who says it was owned by the bookseller T. Thorpe. A note dated July 11, 1832 and signed "J.H." says that he had bought the manuscript from Mr. Thorpe, interleaved it, added table of contents and title, and had it bound. Another note in the same hand as the entire transcription tells us that "J.O.H." (probably Halliwell) had bought the manuscript from Sotheran in 1871 for 50 guineas. In the present volume the whole, including added title and notes, is transcribed in one hand.
