W.b.39 is a bound essay (a combination of handwriting and clippings). W.b.40 consists of items removed from W.b.39, including 2 letters to Harry Sandars from Henry S. King, dated July 8 and 11, 1874 (W.b.40 (1-2)). Both letters are on letterhead from Henry S. King & Co., Publisher, London, acknowledging the receipt of Sandars' manuscript. Also included are clippings from newspapers and other sources (W.b.40 (3)).
Note
"MS by Percy Fitzgerald" written in pencil on the front pastedown of W.b.39, but the text does not resemble his handwriting.
