Title
Autograph letter signed from Harriet McEwen Kimball, [Portsmouth, New Hampshire], to William Winter, Staten Island, New York [manuscript], 1911 February 23.
Description
1 item.
Scope and content
Thanks him for returning her poem with praise. Tells him of various editors (Mr. Marie, William Hayes Ward) and circumstances under which they have rejected it. She now plans to have the volume published after her death and give the copyright and proceeds to the Diocese of New Hampshire as the church has been everything to her. Her advanced age (77) has taught her to plan first for today as every year seems like the last, but her pioneer faculty makes her determined to bring enterprises to their consummation. Discusses the matter of the Laighton birthplace: Mr. Hachett and others are interested beyond your impression. Sends regards to his son Jefferson Winter. Includes an envelope.
Note
On envelope in ink in Winter's hand: Mrs. Kimball, Ans'd. Addressed to Winter at 47 Third Avenue, Fort Hill, New Brighton, Staten Island, New York. Postmarked from Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
