Title
Collection of poems, lampoons &c not yet printed [manuscript], [ca. 1698-1705].
Description
257 leaves ; 31.5 x 20 cm
Associated name
Scope and content
A commonplace books of political satires, lampoons, and epigrams. The contents are divided into three sections: (1) A Collection of Poems and Lampoons & c Not yet printed; (2) A Collection of Choice Poems, Satyrs, & Lampoons From 1672 to 1688. Never printed; (3) A Collection of Poems From 1688 to 1699. 1703/4. Most of the pieces are unidentified.
Note
The pages of each section are numbered separately. Slight difference in the sizes of the leaves and many gaps in the original page numbering indicates that the collection was originally much larger and possibly bound in three volumes, though (with a few exceptions) all three sections were the work of one complier. Few of the pieces in section 1 are dated, the few dates being from 1677 to 1681. The dates within sections are not in order. The writing does not suggest slow compilation over a period of 30 years, and there is no evidence that it was begun before 1700.
