236 leaves ; 20.5 x 16 cm

Scope and content
A commonplace book containing 415 pieces, some of which are extracts from contemporary and earlier poets, but most, apparently, the original compositions of the compiler. From the language and subject matter of the original poems it appears probable that he was a Scotchman. The greater part of the poems are religious or theological.
Note
Few dates appear in the book, but on the first leaf is a poem headed "1737" ; no date after than 1740 has been found. On the first fly-leaf is a statement written in an old hand: "There is another vol. smaller Quarto." The present volume was vol. 2 of No. 9616 in the library of Sir Thomas Phillipps at Middle Hill.
