Swinburne writing from Ivy Lodge, Werter Road, Putney S.W., states that his family's home, Holmwood, has been sold and that he is going to live with his friend, W.T. Watts-Dunton in the suburbs. Swinburne speaks of his A Study of Shakespeare (1880), as being so close to publication that he can send Nichol a copy in a few weeks. He hears that Furnivall intends to anticipate it with a pamphlet reprinting his articles from the Spectator (Mr. Swinburne's "Flat Burglary" of Shakespeare, 1879). He also makes slighting remarks of Tennyson. An envelope, postmarked Henley-on-Thames February 1, [18]77, in Swinburne's hand addressed to John Nichol, but in different ink, is inlaid.
