Manuscript markings noting Lieferung and Band. Notations on second pamphlet correct the number of plates named in the title from 16 to 19. From dealer's description: The Leipzig publisher Gerhard Fleischer cornered the market in producing suites of engravings for inclusion in otherwise unillustrated collected editions of major writers. The nineteen illustrations here were intended for buyers of Otto Benda's edition of Shakespeare, a rival translation to the Schlegel-Tieck version, published in 12mo. at Leipzig by Göschen, in 1825-6 (Goedeke X, 131, 43, 3). Although the wrappers announce sixteen engravings for the sixteen projected volumes, there are in fact nineteen, one for each volume in Benda's edition as finally published. Acquired from Quaritch 2008-01-08.
