Description
1 spoon : silver ; height: approx. 17 cm
Note
The front of the spoon's bowl portion contains an arm protruding from a crown, the hand clutches a rose. An unidentifed Maker's Mark is stamped just below the base of the handle and above the arm motif. The spoon's reverse has an engraved banner marked "1616" at the handle's base. Below this banner, a figure of Shakespeare holds a hat in his proper right hand. A decorative element on flat-top handle is engraved "W.S.A.H." for William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway
Maggs' description, 1925, "An antique silver seal-top spoon, marked with a provincial mark of a flower, the bowl engraved with a full-length figure of Shakespeare, and the date of his death, 1616, and the end with the initials [AH horizontally and WS vertically, intersecting] i.e., William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway. Length of Soon 6-5/8 inches."
