'J.D.' is John Donne; 'M.F.' is Miles Flesher.
Signatures: A⁴(A2+[superscript chi]A²) B-3F⁴.
Stationers' register: Entered 13 September and 31 October 1632.
The inserted bifolium in gathering A contains a general preface, "The printer to the understanders" (first 3 pages), and "Hexastichon Bibliopolae" (on the 4th page), and is signed A1,A2, to precede A3-4 (epistle to "The progresse of the soule", the first work in the collection); it is not present in all copies, and in others may be found incorrectly inserted following A4. Keynes gives "A⁴ ²A²", which does not accord with the contents or the signatures; he also states, "The pagination, which is faulty, varies in different copies", but this appears not to be the case: the pagination is correct, except for the errors noted here, in 6 different copies consulted.
The text includes numerous minor press variants, which are accounted for in the The variorum edition of the poetry of John Donne/Digital Donne: the online variorum.
On the contents of this edition and its textual sources see T.-L. Pebworth, "The text of Donne's writings", in The Cambridge companion to John Donne (2006), pages 23-34.Poems.
Includes a group of eight letters, seven to Sir Henry Goodere (or Goodyer) and one to the Countess of Bedford.
