Title
The Shakspearian diary and almanack : a daily chronicle of events, with appropriate quotations from the poet's works.
Published
[London?] : [G.S. Nottage?], [1874?]
Printed
[London?] : Printed for private circulation
Description
27 unnumbered pages, 1 unnumbered leaf of plates : illustrations ; 22 cm
Associated name
Note
Interleaved with ruled pages.
Preceded by "Extracts from 'Friswell's Life portraits of William Shakspeare'," with photograph of Shakespeare's death mask.
Attributed by the Catalogue of the Shakespeare Memorial Library, Birmingham, to G.S. Nottidge (i.e. G.S. Nottage?). Same source speculates that the almanac was published in 1869. Almanac lists January 1st as a Friday, does not include a leap day (February 29), and lists March 28th as Easter. These dates match only years 1869 and 1875 in the latter half of the 19th century, suggesting that the almanac was published in the respective preceding years 1868 or 1874; however, the events listed with each date include two events from 1869 (the Overend Gurney Prosecution for January 1st and the birthday of Dr. Tait for December 22nd, which includes a note that he was installed Archbishop of Canterbury in Febaruary 1869), suggesting that this is an 1875 almanac and consequently printed in the preceding year 1874.
