Summary
Broadside detailing a series of altercations at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Performances of Dumas's "Count of Monte Cristo" by the French theater company Théâtre Historique, presented on June 12 and 14, 1848, were repeatedly shouted over by English theatergoers angry at the perceived slight to English theater. Audience members protested until they were forced out of the theater. Broadside concludes: "'Thrice armed is he who hath his quarrel just.' Shakspeare for ever!"

Alexandre Dumas' Monte Cristo was first produced in London in Feb. 1848; Mary Elliott printed in Holywell Street, London, between 1844 and 1851.
"Catalogue of rare and valuable autograph letters, historical documents and authors' original manuscripts" (J. Pearson & Co., 1907) gives date of broadside as 1850.
"Elliott" is spelled as "Elliot".
