Note
Title from caption.
The first of several newsbooks with this title published during 1642.
Edited by Samuel Pecke; some authorities believe that Pecke's association with this newsbook ended after the middle of March, 1642, however it is possible he was associated with it until the middle of September, at which time he began to edit another paper with the same title published by Francis Coles. Cf. Nelson and Seccombe; Frank; Williams.
Most later issues have imprints below the caption title reading: Printed for William Cook; spelling of publisher's name varies.
Dates of coverage for the first issues given according to Lady Day dating.
There were a number of counterfeits and imitations, and some pirated issues with the same text, different title spelling, and different imprint; these latter were not included in this record.

Relationship to other resource
Continued with a slightly different title: "A perfect diurnall of the proceedings in Parliament", probably to evade the persistent counterfeiters of August and September.
An imitation of this newsbook with the same title was printed during September and October, 1642.
Issue no. 15 (26 Sept.-3 Oct. 1642) appears to be an imitation of a paper with the same title published by Walter Cooke and Robert Wood.
