Note
"Publish'd June 24th. 1788, by John & Josiah Boydell, No. 90. Cheapside London".
According to the English Heritage catalogue for Mrs. Jordan The Duchess of Drury Lane, this engraving was published as The Romp but the title was later changed to The Country Girl. Confusion came from the costume belonging to The Romp while the pose is recognizable from Romney's portrait of Mrs. Jordan as Peggy in The Country Girl. The Country Girl was one of Mrs. Jordan's roles at Drury Lane during her first season there in 1785 where she was an immediate, tremendous success.
Mat contains notes perhaps by Mrs. Craven.
