Part 1: French exercise book with each page divided into 2 columns, with the English on the left and the French translation on the right; French translations incomplete; in two hands. Part 2: disbursements, made by William Bullocke and others, of stable accounts for Redhouse seat for April-July, 1606.

In English and some with French translations.

Part 1: 25 leaves; part 2 (beginning from rear of volume): 15 leaves. Blank leaves, part 2, leaves 6-15; numerous stubs in part 2 between leaves 5 and 6 and between leaves 9 and 10.

Creator of French exercise book from Part 1, leaf 1: "Barbara Slingesbye wret this Booke 1643" and "Ms Barbara Slingesbye August [th]e 23th 1643." Also on Part 2, leaf 1v: "Thomas Sling / Thomas Sli."

Redhouse, near Moor Monkton, North Yorkshire, was the seat for the Slingsby family. Barbara Slingsby was daughter of Sir Henry Slingsby, a royalist army officer and conspirator, and the wife of Sir John Talbot of Lacock Abbey.
