Note
Title and plate mark dimensions from Pennington.
One of four numbered etchings after the series Les Gueux by Jacques Callot. This set of etchings has been grouped with "Balli di Sfessania," Hollar's other series after Callot, which Pennington dates to 1630 on the basis of a signed and dated impression at the Fitzwilliam Museum, University of Cambridge. Individual impressions could be much later, since the plate continued to be printed from, and can be found in Peter Stent's 1662 catalog.
Hollar was active in Strasbourg in 1630.
Numbered "3" in lower right corner.
