Box has engraved silver edging on lid and front corners and medallion on the top inscribed "To Ellen Bateman, a token from New Orleans, January 21st. 1854." Interior is blue velvet and leather with five removable partitions.
Dated January 21, 1854 from New Orleans. Addressed "To Misses Kate and Ellen Bateman" from "Your Admirers and Friends," detailing a gift to each of them. "To you Miss Kate, the accompanying Tea Service; and to you Miss Ellen, the silver Dressing Case." Bifolum. With accompanying envelope addressed to Miss Ellen Bateman.
