Bust portrait; etching signed & dated in left tail-end margin. Plate mark 15.5 x 11.7 cm. A realistic bust portrait of Andreas Reif, a young Nuremberg stone mason ( and architect ?) in working dress positioned in between a wall of natural stone blocks, as symbol of his profession. Facing him is a block of stone with his work device faintly visible. Reif, who looks at the artist with a defiant expression, may have been a friend. No biographical details are available. Good impression; light wear in edges of tail blank margin. P. Mortzfeld A 7382; Hollstein G12A,21 (no 41)." Ordered from Hünersdorff Rare Books, D9784, 2024-11-25, email quote.
