This work was intended as a companion volume to the images of the Old Testament published by Rouillé in 1564 as "Figures de la Bible, illustrees de huictains francoys, pour l'interpretation et intelligence d'icelles." Rouillé explains that the delay in its publication was due to a bad outbreak of the plague in Lyon. Cf. preface, p. [3]-[4].
