Folger-specific note
Folger copy 37 wants the "verses" leaf with port. ([pi]1); an excised copy of the port. in state 4, proper to this edition, has been mounted to face the title page ([pi]2 recto) replacing the wanting "verses" leaf with port.
Apparently made up from two or more copies. Onward from the beginning of Romeo (*3D3 ff.), leaves are untypically waterstained passim. In addition, *3E4.5 and 3L3.4 are short and narrow with edges feathered, and 3L1,2 are uniquely wormed.
Imperfections affect text very slightly on H4,6, L1,4 recto, 2K5, and 3K4.
Book label of William John Phelps. Bookplates of William Phelps and of Arthur William Clifford.
