Folger-specific note
Folger copy 14 wants the title leaf ([superscript pi]A2) and the "verses" leaf with port. ([superscript pi]A1); supplied in facsim.
Leaves [superscript pi]A3-[superscript pi]b6 are inset; text toward the margins is touched up with pen and ink and completed in manuscript facsim.
Leaves B1,6 and B2,5, the watermarks of which redound, belong to different copies. Most likely B1 (inset) and B2 (inset) were supplied from another copy, but B5,6--as all the leaves B3-C2, which are remargined at the tail--may have been supplied from another copy. The head of C2 is patched with a piece supplied from another genuine leaf; the headline, recto and verso, is touched up with pen and ink and completed in manuscript facsim.
Leaves [par.]A2,5, the watermarks of which redound, belong to different copies.
Many leaves passim are discolored by chemical treatment. Some of these leaves are likely supplied from another copy.
Imperfections affect text on a4 and very slightly on E4 and [par.]F1.
Variant states and printings, as recorded by James G. McManaway, "New discoveries in the Third Folio," PBSA, v. 70, (1976), 469-80, and other such variations, are identified in file.
Probably from the stock of Riviere & Son, bookbinders, London; sold as lot #829 in the sale at Anderson Galleries, New York, April 21-May 1, 1918, "Part Two of the Library of . . . Mark P. Robinson", which included a consignment from Riviere.
